Summer SAVY 2018: Session 4, Day 3 – Adventures in Algebra (Rising 2nd)
Happy Third Day!
Today our young mathematicians worked with variables in equations and solved variable puzzles. They were actually solving one- and two-step equations in order to figure out the puzzles. Next class session, they will create their own puzzles for their peers to solve. They will make sure their puzzles are in equation form and explore equations that go together. These will be sets of equations with two unknowns or variables. In each set, each variable will represent a unique value, and the mathematicians will have to use both equations to find the value of each variable.
The mathematicians continued to work on creating their stores to be displayed on Friday morning. Tomorrow, they will convert the prices of their store items to simple and complex equations. They are eager to have you visit their stores for the purpose of generating money for the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Each family will be given $100.00 (fake money) to shop at the students’ stores. It will be lots of fun learning!
