Summer SAVY 2017, Session 6/Day 2- Wildlife Ecology (Rising 6th/7th)
Things are bubbling right along in Wildlife Ecology!
This morning we researched some methods for repelling deer from gardens and cropland and designed experiments to do so. Each group
identified independent and dependent variables as well as controlling conditions.
We also discussed the life cycle of deer ticks ( Ixodes scapularis) and different survival strategies found among organisms. Then we simulated r-strategists
using soap bubbles and graphed our results.
Tomorrow, we’ll be able to determine whether our results compare well with our prediction! On Wednesday we’ll have the opportunity to go to the computer lab and
use Excel graphing to determine rates of change in populations undergoing exponential growth. We also have several other activities planned!
Everyone have a wonderful Tuesday evening and we’ll see you tomorrow in Wildlife Ecology!
