Summer SAVY 2018: Session 6, Day 5 – Archaeology and Ancient Culture (Rising 3rd/4th)

Posted by on Friday, July 27, 2018 in Grade 3, Grade 4, SAVY.

What an awesome week we have had with our budding archaeologists! Today was all about excavation and artifact analysis! After we finished working on our brochures from yesterday, we started working on excavating the archaeological sites we created yesterday. Just like real archaeologists, students had to excavate layer by layer. This was a challenge because some of the layers had moved a bit, modeling natural soil processes like erosion. Once we finished excavating, our students analyzed the artifacts they found and made posters presenting their results! The students now have an advanced understanding of how archaeological sites are formed through stratigraphic layers!

I’m really pleased and impressed with how hard everyone worked this week! Thank you for allowing me to teach them!
