Spring SAVY 2018, Day 3- Earth Explorers (1st/2nd)

Posted by on Monday, February 12, 2018 in Grade 1, Grade 2, SAVY.

Geomorphologists study the Earth’s landforms, processes, and sediments at the surface of the Earth. Today we discovered how rocks are made, weathered, eroded, and moved! Students created their very own rock cycle and were able to connect various topics we discussed over the past few weeks.

For the second half of class, we explored the power of glaciers. Flowing rivers of ice, glaciers play a very important role shaping the landscape. They act like conveyer belts as they erode away rock and carry it down the valley. Check out this video to see some amazing glacier processes and forms. Students then created their very own flubber-glaciers and simulated ice flow down different slopes! To make your own glacier at home, follow this recipe!
