Spring SAVY 2017, Day 4- Robotic Programming

Posted by on Monday, February 20, 2017 in Grade 1, Grade 2, SAVY.

Greetings!

We had the best day so far!  We started by talking about Pokémon Go, because the kids were excited about the updates that just went out!  However, yesterday, they were having glitches and I was able to screen shot the error message and explain what that meant!  They were so excited to see that even Pokémon programmers run into issues!  It was precious!  We then talked about Beta Testing and how there is a definite process to be sure that everything is working correctly!  It helped them realize that EVERYONE reaches a struggle point when you code!

We then worked on programming their Spheros, and they all came a long way today!  They were excited to start writing their own programs and try new commands.  They would then eagerly share their newfound trick to the other kids and when we ran out of time, there was a lot of disappointment!  I was also hearing comments about how excited they were to show you some of the things that they figured out!  It was really a great day!

We will continue working on their own programs next week so that they will be ready to show you during open house.  It is so wonderful to see them all grow and be successful!  I think the best comment I heard was “This is a whole lot more fun now that I have learned how to code my own stuff!  I think I may need some extra days to work on the Sphero! Can we make the class longer?”  That is what we like to hear!

Have a great week!
