Summer SAVY, Session 4 Day 5, Greek Mythology (Waxman) (5th – 6th)
Happy Friday! We had a fabulous final day in Greek Mythology: Myth to Modern Legend! This morning, we ended our study of the mythology canon by learning about the Trojan War and the Odyssey. After that, we completed our mythological board games and finished writing our own myths. Students then had the opportunity to present their final projects to the class, and I was blown away by their work.
For the board games, we had students create Greek mythology versions of Clue, memory games, Dungeons and Dragons, and more! I really enjoyed playing some of the board games with the students this morning and seeing everyone’s creativity. The students all brought their board games and myths home with them, so please encourage your children to share/explain their projects with you!
Although this course focused exclusively on Greek mythology, we also learned a little bit about the Roman names of the main gods and goddesses today. If students are interested in continuing their study of mythology, I would encourage them to look at how the Greek myths translate into the foundation of the Roman empire and culture. Finally, we ended the day with some review Jeopardy and trivia!
Some dinner table questions:
- What did you create for your final project? Why?
- Of the board games you played this afternoon, which was your favorite and why?
- Of the other student presentations this afternoon, which was your favorite and why?
- What was your favorite part of the course?
I so enjoyed getting to know the students this week, and I hope they enjoyed immersing themselves in Greek mythology! Have a wonderful weekend.
Warmly,
Ms. Waxman
