Summer SAVY, Session 4 Day 5, Greek Mythology (Young) (5th – 6th)

Today was an amazing day!

As always, we started our day with Connections from the New York Times, then we jumped right into our projects. They finished writing their rough drafts for their myths and discussed them with their peers.

We then discussed some characteristics of a good presentation. How can you capture your audience’s attention? What are some ways you can keep them engaged? They used these ideas to help with their visuals.

They spent the morning working on presentations. Some chose to type their story and have a picture slideshow to accompany it. Some chose to create an animated story and some students created a comic strip. Every single presentation was unique in some way. Their imaginations are powerful!

Students presented their myths to their peers this afternoon, and I was blown away. I strongly believe that gifted students should have the opportunity to push creative boundaries. I love to see them use their imaginations and try things that they may have never tried before. I want them to truly be themselves. As long as my high expectations are met, their products can be completely outside the box! Self-expression is so important. Why would you want to be like everyone else?

Their presentations are all located on a Canva account that I created just for our class. You are welcome to check them out, and students have been invited to continue working on them if they choose.

Thank you so much for sharing your children with me this week. The hardest part was saying goodbye to them. I hope they continue to express themselves, and I hope they continue to have teachers who allow them to push the boundaries.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Young
