Summer SAVY, Session 4 Day 2, Water and Weather (1st – 2nd)

Posted by on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 in blog, SAVY.

Greetings!

What a fabulous, hands-on learning experience today was!  We measured to see how much water had evaporated from their water cups since yesterday, and we redid our filter experiments breaking down each part and testing it to see what worked and what didn’t work to filter the water.  Ask them about their results!  We tested coffee filters, cheesecloth, rocks, and cotton balls!

We then started learning about how and why water filters were created and the importance of water in everything from cooking, showering, and washing dishes to flushing toilets, watering plants and animals, washing clothes, and even how it affects the weather.  What a day to talk about the weather!

We also learned how to read a weather map with rain by color key and the water cycle, and we experimented with ice to create condensation investigating the three states of water.  They are asking phenomenal questions and are doing such a great job!  See if you can smell the ocean with the winds today because that often happens when a hurricane actually makes it to Tennessee as a rainfront!

Have a great night!
