Vanderbilt Summer Academy Qualifying Scores
Please note that scores are based upon the grade in which the student took the test.
|
Once a student has qualified, he or she does not have to submit further rest results for following years.
A note for parents:
We often receive requests to accept scores from grade-level achievement tests such as the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program or the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. As much as we would like to accommodate these requests, our classes are carefully calibrated, based on years of research, to meet the challenge needs of our highly gifted students without overtaxing them. Out-of-level testing, such as the SAT or ACT when given to younger students, offers the best gauge of how appropriate the course work may be for an individual. For more information about out-of-level testing, please visit the Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP) site on talent search (www.tip.duke.edu/talent_searches); or the Davidson Institute for Talent Development Web site (www.davidsoninstitute.org) to access an article by Jan Hansen titled ”Discovering Highly Gifted Students."
In our experience, gifted students enjoy the challenge of taking these tests, so long as undue pressure is not placed upon them. Your student may take the SAT or ACT assessments at any time and at any grade level. Students can also retake the tests and submit new results. We accept scores that were achieved through the Duke Talent Identification Program; but you are not required to go through TIP to apply to Vanderbilt Summer Academy. Please note that any scores submitted to us are for our placement purposes only and have no bearing at all on the college application process.
You can register directly for either the SAT or the ACT through their Web sites:
