VSA Residential Operations Assistant
Vanderbilt Summer Academy is a residential summer academic program for academically gifted youth, ages 12-18. The program runs from early June through the end of July each summer. The Residential Operations Assistant (ROA) will staff VSA summer office and will be responsible for managing a variety of tasks in support of VSA staff and students. ROA’s will work with and report to the VSA House Master and will also provide support to the VSA Activities Coordinator. The ROA’s work will insure that day-to-day operations run smoothly for all parties concerned. Applicants for this position must be 21 years of age by the start-date of employment. ROA’s must have a valid driver’s license and be able and willing to drive VSA vehicles.
Expectations/Daily Tasks
- Answer office phone, providing a friendly and professional climate
- Direct calls/distribute messages in a timely fashion as needed
- Monitor supply and equipment inventory & control
- Manage medication procedures for VSA students
- Assist residential staff in preparations for evening activities
- Copy and distribute VSA Today, the daily newsletter
- Help with creation & posting of signage advertising various VSA events
- Daily mail pick-up and distribution
- Assist with daily activity sign up as needed
- Copying/Filing as needed
- Serve as liaison for academic, residential and administrative staff
- Provide support to House Master and Activities Coordinator as needed
- Be available to assist with Check-in/Check-out on some Saturdays and Sundays
- Assist in making requests for building maintenance/housekeeping when needed
- Serve as a responsible adult presence to VSA students/staff in the residence hall
- Maintain orderly & professional office environment for VSA students, parents, and staff
- Attend VSA staff meetings
- Attend/chaperone VSA events and outings as needed
- Fill-in in the event of proctor illness/absence
- Other duties as assigned
Additional information
This is a full-time live-in temporary summer position. Employment begins June4 and ends July 28. ROA’s will work varied daily 8-hour shifts throughout each week VSA is in session in order to keep the office staffed roughly from 7:30 am – 11:00 pm. ROA’s can expect to have both day and evening shifts in any given week. Ideal applicant will have great sense of humor and experience interacting with teen-agers. Experience with basic office procedures highly desired. Must also be organized, professional and willing to manage the desk independently as well as take direction and task assignments from the House Master, Activities Coordinator, and administrative staff as needed. VSA will hire up to 3 ROA’s most summers. One of the three ROA’s will be designated as lead. Priority for the lead position is given to applicants with past experience with VSA or other PTY programs.
Compensation
Beginning salary for ROA’s is of $1000/month for June & July plus housing and a meal plan.
